Halt / Terms and refunds
Terms and refunds
These terms cover the Halt app for Windows, its browser extension and Halt Pro. They are written to be read. Last updated: 27 October 2026 (self-service refunds).
The short version
- Halt Basic is free. Halt Pro is one payment, with every update to Halt for Windows included. There is no subscription.
- Halt Pro is for you, on all the PCs you use. You unlock it with the email you paid with.
- Not happy? Refund it yourself on My purchase within 30 days, in full, at once.
- Only install Halt on a computer you own or have the right to manage.
Halt Basic and the free trial
Halt Basic is free to download and use, for as long as you like. The first time Halt is installed on a PC, Halt Pro is unlocked for 7 days, with no card and no account. The trial runs once per PC. When it ends, Halt keeps working as Halt Basic, and the Pro settings you made are kept for when you add a license.
Halt Pro
Halt Pro is a one-time purchase. It unlocks Halt for Windows for good, on the PCs you use, with the email you paid with, with every future update of Halt for Windows included at no extra cost.
- The license is for you, the person who bought it. You can use it on all the PCs you own or use: on each one, press I already bought it in Halt's settings and type the code we email you.
- Please don't share your purchase with other people or resell it. If a license key we gave you for support turns up on very many different PCs, new PCs are paused for a while; the PCs already using it keep working.
- Halt for Mac and the apps for Android and iPhone are not out yet. When they are, we will say clearly how they are offered.
Paying
Halt Pro is sold through Polar (polar.sh), which acts as the merchant of record: it takes the payment, adds sales tax or VAT where your country requires it, and handles refunds. Your payment is also covered by Polar's terms. Prices are in US dollars.
Refunds: 30 days, no questions
If Halt Pro isn't right for you, you can refund it yourself within 30 days of buying, with no questions and no waiting for us: open My purchase, enter the email you paid with, open the link we send you, and press Refund. The full price goes back to the card you paid with at once (banks usually take 5 to 10 days to show it). A refunded license stops working on all your PCs, and Halt goes back to Halt Basic. The self-service refund is available once per customer; for anything else, write to support@haltmode.com. A payment that is charged back through your bank is treated like a refund.
Using Halt
- Halt changes settings on your PC to do its job: browser policies, your network's DNS while the adult filter is on, a small Windows service, and, if you turn it on, access to Task Manager and the Command Prompt during a session. Uninstalling Halt puts them back. Our FAQ explains each one.
- Only install Halt on a computer you own or have the right to manage, and don't use it to watch or control someone without their knowledge where the law doesn't allow it. Halt doesn't record what anyone browses.
- Locks are designed to be hard to undo on purpose. An administrator can always reverse Halt's changes, and Windows Safe Mode always gives you a way back into your PC.
What we promise, and what we can't
We build Halt carefully and test every release, but no software is perfect, and Halt is provided as it is. We can't promise it will stop every site or app in every situation, or that it will never have a bug. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect losses, such as lost work or data, and our total responsibility for Halt Pro is limited to what you paid for it. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the consumer laws of your country.
Privacy
What Halt and this website handle, and what stays on your PC, is in our privacy policy.
Changes
If these terms change, we update this page and the date at the top. A change never takes away a license you already bought or the updates that come with it.
