Halt / Adult content filter

Block adult sites on your whole PC

Halt's adult filter blocks adult sites in every browser and app on your Windows PC and keeps SafeSearch on. You decide in advance how long turning it off takes, so a weak moment passes before anything changes. It's part of Halt Pro: $29 once, with no subscription.

What the filter does

Every browser and every app

Halt points your PC's network settings at Cloudflare's family filter, which blocks millions of adult sites and keeps its list up to date. Chrome, Edge, Brave and Firefox are set to use the same filter for their own secure DNS, so changing a browser setting doesn't get around it. Private windows are filtered too.

SafeSearch stays on

Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo always show safe results. The Strict level also turns on YouTube's Restricted Mode and turns off private windows in Chrome and Edge.

Turning it off takes time

Turning the filter on takes effect at once. Turning it off, or making it weaker, waits out a cool-down you choose when you set it up: 30 minutes, 2 hours, 1 day, 3 days or 7 days. When the wait is over, you have 24 hours to confirm. If you don't, the filter stays on.

Permanent

With Permanent, the cool-down is 30 days. The only way to turn it off sooner is to ask Halt support for an unlock code, which works once, on your PC.

It can't be uninstalled on impulse

While the filter is on, Halt can't be uninstalled. Once you've turned the filter off and the cool-down has passed, Halt uninstalls like any other app and puts your settings back.

A wrong click isn't a trap

For 10 minutes after you turn the filter on or make it stricter, you can undo that one step.

Private by design

Halt takes no screenshots, keeps no history of the sites you visit, and sends no reports to anyone. There's no partner to set up and no one to explain yourself to: the block holds on its own. The only thing that leaves your PC is the names of the websites it looks up, which go to Cloudflare's filter like they would with any DNS service.

Questions

Is this a parental control?

No. Halt is for your own PC, and you turn the filter on for yourself. It doesn't hide from you, monitor anyone or send reports to anyone.

Does the filter work in private windows?

Yes. The filter works at the network level, so private windows are filtered like any other. The Strict level also turns private windows off in Chrome and Edge.

Does it need a focus session to be running?

No. The adult filter is separate from focus sessions. Once it's on, it stays on all the time.

Does Halt work on my phone?

No. Halt works on Windows 10 and 11. On Android, you can set Private DNS to family.cloudflare-dns.com, the same filter Halt uses. On an iPhone, Screen Time can limit adult websites.

What if a normal site gets blocked?

Cloudflare's filter is aimed at adult sites and malware, so this is rare. If it happens, write to support@haltmode.com and we'll help.

How much does it cost?

The adult filter is part of Halt Pro, which is $29 paid once from January 2027, with no subscription and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
